Synthetic Fuels: Paving the Way for the Future of ICEs? Powered by ETTN

All we hear about these days is the transition to zero-emissions powertrains. The OEM manufacturers are overwhelmingly shifting resources away from traditional engine development, and regulators and legislatures are increasingly passing laws and regulations that will require the use of electric powertrains exclusively in the future. A few companies, however, are investing in research into an alternate technology, while still preserving internal combustion engine (ICE). 

The promise of synthetic fuels, or E fuels as they are known, is a carbon-neutral supply chain that not only produces a cleaner-burning fuel, but also absorbs greenhouse gasses in the production process, resulting in net-zero carbon emissions. While there is still more work to be done before these fuels are practical and available, the potential for a future of ICEs is very appealing to enthusiasts and offers a solution to the infrastructure challenges posed by EVs. This panel will not only discuss the promise and state of this technology, but also the changes in the regulatory framework required to recognize its benefits.
